ScienceSoft - Design Phase

ScienceSoft Design Phase

ScienceSoft Design Phase

The ScienceSoft initiative enters its design phase. This phase is planned to last until the end of September 2012 and focus on the refinement of a few major requirements in well-defined pieces of functionality and concrete implementation plans. A major goal is to clearly understand whether the functionality already exist somewhere and can be reused, whether it has to be implemented anew, who wants to contribute to what, what resources are needed. Read the ScienceSoft Overview for more Information on ScienceSoft.

How to Contribute

The Design Phase is an excellent opportunity to join and contribute your ideas to shape the ScienceSoft community and tools. The main contribution channel is provided by the Forums. The Forum section of the web site provides a discussion place for the software products and projects registered in the ScienceSoft community. ScienceSoft itself has a dedicated forum where the current design phase topics are discussed. All discussions are public, but you have to be registered as a ScienceSoft member to add topics or post new comments.

Contributions can be provided as Contributor or Member:

Contributor
The ScienceSoft Contributors actively participate to the definition, design and implementation of the ScienceSoft initiative. They can have a decisional and organizational role in one or more of the design topics or a development role

Member
Members can share ideas and provide comments or feedback on the design topics or commit to test the functionality as it is implemented for example by registering software products. Members can be individual users (scientists, engineers, developers, etc) or can represent and organize projects, collaborations, institutes or companies:

How to get started

The work done so far about ScienceSoft by a collaboration of several projects is described in the ScienceSoft Overview document. This is a good place to get a feeling of what ScienceSoft is trying to solve and what possible solutions have been prosed so far.

The Forums are the next logical place. Share your ideas and read what others are proposing and doing.

How to join ScienceSoft

If you are interested in joining ScienceSoft and contribute to the design or just share your comments, make yourself known. If you have a valid CERN account, you can already login. If not, you can ask for a lightweight CERN account valid on ScienceSoft and other CERN web sites. Every contribution helps, from sharing ideas to offering to develop a full-fledged drupal module to register and manage complex collaborations of people and institutes and anything in between.

More information about joining ScienceSoft can be found on the Join page
