Overview

ScienceSoft members are individuals developing or using software or software-related services as part of scientific research activities. Members can work for Organizations and take part in Collaborations. They can for example manage, lead, contribute to, deploy or maintain software products or services. Once a Member is registered a profile page is created to store and display information about the Member to be used in the different parts of the ScienceSoft web site and features.

 

Authentication and Login

Before you can login into ScienceSoft, you need to have a valid account. For the time being valid accounts are standard CERN accounts or lightweight CERN accounts. Lightweight CERN account can be provided to anybody having a valid e-mail address and can be used on a number of CERN-hosted applications, including ScienceSoft. Login using Facebook, Gmail or other OpenID accounts is being set up. For more information, please refer to the Login page

 

Where to go to edit a Member profile

Once you are logged in, click on the My Profile link in the top menu of any page. The page displays the current profile information and provides links to edit the information and activate additional features, like the Follow links, subscription to content and personal shortcuts.

 

How to edit a Member profile

The Profile Edit form contains a number of fields to set various properties. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk (*) in the form. At the top of the form there are two links, Account and Facebook. The Account page is used to set attributes of the ScienceSoft profile. The Facebook page can be used to associate an existing Facebook account to your ScienceSoft profile and reuse some of its properties, like the user picture.

Username, password and e-mail address cannot be edited in this form since they are centrally managed by the CERN Accounts system. This information can be managed at the CERN Account Portal

E-mail address:  the e-mail address of the Member. This field cannot be edited, since accounts are centrally managed by the CERN authentication system. It is used by the system to send notification to the Member, but it is never displayed in the ScienceSoft web site.

Signature:  a short signature to be used with your comments and forum entries.

Picture:  your picture to be displayed with your profile. It can be uploaded from your file system or from Facebook, if you associate a Facebook account and allow reusing the picture (see the Facebook link at the top of the form. However, this feature is a bit experimental, it is preferable to upload a picture). If the resolution is higher than 100x100 px, it will be automatically resized

Profile:  a short profile describing your activities, interests, etc. to be displayed to other Members.

Web sites:  one or more web site URLs with an optional title, for example your personal or professional web sites, etc.

Time zone:  the time zone to be used to display dates and times on the web site when you are logged in.

Address:  your address. If set it is displayed with your profile and used to generate maps of ScienceSoft Members.
