How to register Organizations

Overview

Organizations in ScienceSoft are research or educational institutes or companies active in one or more scientific domains. Organizations can develop or use software through their members or as part of collaborations, like projects or research initiatives.

New Organizations can be registered by any authenticated user. Once an Organization is registered, the user becomes the owner of that Organization page and can edit the existing content, but not delete the Organization altogether. Before an Organization can be registered, it is necessary to login with a valid ScienceSoft account.

Authentication and Login

Before you can login into ScienceSoft, you need to have a valid account. For the time being valid accounts are standard CERN accounts or lightweight CERN accounts. Lightweight CERN account can be provided to anybody having a valid e-mail address and can be used on a number of CERN-hosted applications, including ScienceSoft. Login using Facebook, Gmail or other OpenID accounts is being set up. For more information, please refer to the Login page

Where to go to register a new Organization

Once you are logged in, click on the Organizations link in the top menu of any page. The page provides links to register a new Organization or search for registered Organizations. Click on "Register new Organization" to go to the registration form.

The "Create Organization" form

The form to register a new Organization is called "Create Organization". It contains a number of fields to set various properties of the Organization. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk (*) in the form:

Name:  the short name or acronym of the organization

Full name:  the full extended name of the organization

Description:  a description of the organization mission, activities, main achievements, etc. The first few words of the Description are also used as Summary in the teaser form when your Organization is displayed as part of the result of a search or similar list views. You can modify the Summary to be displayed by using the "Edit Summary" link above the Description text box

Logo:  an optional logo, it must be an image of type png, gif, jpg, or jpeg of max 2 MB size. If its resolution is higher than 100x100 px, it will be automatically resized

If its resolution is higher than 550x400 px, it will be automatically resized

Scientific interests:  A comma separated list of scientific domains or disciplines where the Organization is active. By typing a few letters you can get a list of existing scientific disciplines already in use by registered Organizations, Collaborations or Software Products.

Organization type:  an optional Organization type. A few options are presented, if your Organization does not fall in any of those categories, please let us know at ScienceSoft Support

Web sites:  One or more optional web site URLs, for example the main web site, the recruitment web sites, the history page, etc. A title can be added to be displayed instead of the plain URL

Contact:  One or more optional web sites or email addresses handling requests about your Organization.

Location:  the address of the Organization, it is displayed on the Organization page in ScienceSoft and used to display maps. It is recommended to provide a full address, but anything beyond the City and Country is optional.

Revision:  use this to optionally flag a modification as a revision and save a copy of the previous version

Alias:  an optional single-word term to be used as friendly alias for your Organization in the ScienceSoft site instead of the longer Drupal-style node name

Institutes in Organizations

Morris Riedel's picture

Hi,   it would be good think about another structure (e.g. institute, divisions, etc.) below the organization somehow. Often it is easier for an institute to join rather than the full organization (e.g. requires official PR documents/agreements to be present at some sites). For the time being we register Juelich Supercomputing Centre as one institute out of Forschungszentrum Juelich until it is clarified what shape Science Soft will take.Take care,Morris
